One of the leaders of our grief retreat offered a beautiful ritual around garlic. Her meditation invited us to reflect on the ways that we are like the head of garlic that contains many cloves. Our grief may be one part of us, but there are other elements too. All parts of the garlic bring flavor and nourishment to our meals, just as grief adds depth and wisdom to our hearts. As part of the ritual, we buried the cloves of garlic deep in our garden beds, and covered them with hay. Not only did the ritual feed our souls that evening, but the garlic will bless many of our meals next year. Thank you Kathy!
